Wellington Laboratories have developed 2 certified reference standards for lithium : LiPFMeSI and LiPFEtSI.
Wellington Laboratories, renowned for their expertise in the field of per- and polyfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS), recently launched two new certified reference standards for the analysis of PFAS from electronic waste: the LiPFMeSI and LiPFEtSI.
Electronic waste: a major source of PFAS pollution
The increase in electronic waste, particularly battery components, is contributing to PFAS emissions. As a result, per- and polyfluoroalkylated substances are recognised for their environmental persistence. Among the compounds of concern, lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulphonyl)imide (HQ-115, bistriflimide or NTf2) has recently attracted a great deal of attention. It is considered to be an emerging contaminant.
Towards better management of persistent contaminants
Wellington has developed certified reference standards for lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulphonyl)imide (LiPFMeSI) and lithium bis(pentafluoroethanesulphonyl)imide ( LiPFEtSI). These standards are essential for guaranteeing the accuracy and reliability of environmental analyses, thus enabling a better understanding and management of PFAS contamination.
In addition, these standards are in line with ASTM methods D8421 and D8535, which standardise the detection of PFAS in aqueous and solid matrices. As a result, the adoption of such standards could lead to better assessment and management of the management of the environmental impact of these ‘eternal’ pollutants.
Continued research into analytical tools and disposal methods for PFAS, such as HQ-115, is essential to mitigate the ecotoxicological and health impacts associated with the proliferation of e-waste. Reference standards, such as those provided by the Wellingtons, are therefore essential if we are to meet the challenges posed by these persistent contaminants.
The range of standards for the analysis of PFAS from electronic waste:
Catalogue No. | Description | Unit | Solvent | CAS |
---|---|---|---|---|
LiPFMeSI | Lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide | 1.2 mL x 50ug/mL | methanol | 90076-65-6 |
LiPFEtSI | Lithium bis(pentafluoroethanesulfonyl)imide | 1.2 mL x 50ug/mL | methanol | 132843-44-8 |
