Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, PBDEs & Polybrominated biphenyls, PBBs

See the Wellington catalog

PBDEs are industrially produced mixtures of several more or less brominated chemical compounds. They are used as flame retardants in many applications.

PBDEs, mixtures of brominated congeners, are mainly used as flame retardants in resins, foams, plastics and upholstery. These contaminants are very persistent in the environment and are also volatile and fat-soluble.

They are persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that bioaccumulate in organisms. Thus, the duration of contamination of the environment extends well beyond their destruction.

Wellington has prepared individual and/or labeled solutions as well as calibration sets and mixtures containing hydroxy-PBDEs, methoxy-PBDEs and PBBs.
