A complete range dedicated to environmental analysis.

Per- and polyfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) are at the heart of current environmental concerns, due to their persistence, mobility and potential effects on human health and ecosystems.

To meet the growing demands of environmental monitoring, our partner, Wellington Laboratories (Canada), has recently developed a new PFAS analytical mixture: ISO 21675-LSSA. This mixture is specifically formulated to meet the requirements of ISO 21675:2019, relating to the analysis of PFAS by LC-MS/MS in aqueous matrices.

ISO 21675-NSS:

a native mixture for external calibration

ISO 21675-NSS (Native Stock Solution) contains unlabelled (native) compounds. It is used for:

  • establishing external calibration curves,
  • validation of linearity and instrumental response,
  • comparison with mass-labelled standards (LSS and LSSA) to ensure the accuracy of the results.

ISO 21675-LSS:

the standard mix for priority PFAS

The ISO 21675-LSS (Labelled Stock Solution) mixture forms the analytical basis for implementing the ISO 21675 standard. It includes isotopically labelled standards (¹³C) for the main per- and polyfluoroalkyl compounds identified as critical in drinking water and surface water:

  • PFOA, PFOS, PFHxA, PFBS, PFNA, PFPeA, etc.
  • Direct compatibility with LC-MS/MS methods,
  • Recommended for use in accredited laboratories working on aqueous matrices.

This mixture is essential for any analysis that complies with current standards.

ISO 21675-LSSA:

a supplement for additional analytes

The ISO 21675-LSSA (Labelled Stock Solution – Additional Analytes) mixture complements the basic ISO 21675-LSS mix to broaden the scope of PFAS analysis under the ISO 21675:2019 international standard.

This mixture contains the 7 internal standards that have been added to the final version of the method. These additional standards are alternative 13C-labelled analogues of the ISO 21675-LSS components.

While the ISO 21675-LSS mixture already enables the precise quantification of many target PFAS, the LSSA version brings:

  • additional isotopic standards for PFAS analytes not initially covered: fluorinated telomers, long-chain acids (PFTrDA, PFTeDA), branched isomers, etc.
  • a response to regulatory and scientific developments which are extending the list of substances to be monitored,
  • full compatibility with ISO 21675 protocols, while meeting more specific needs.

This makes it a strategic complement for complete PFAS coverage.

A modular approach that reflects the reality on the ground

The combined use of LSS, LSSA and NSS mixtures enables laboratories to:

  • meet the minimum standard requirements,
  • extend their analytical capabilities to meet scientific or regulatory needs,
  • anticipate developments in European and international watch lists.

These reference solutions have been developed to optimise the detection and quantification of PFAS in aqueous matrices.

ISO 21675:2019 Labelled Stock Solution Additional Analytes

1.2 mL, methanol, <1% water

ISO 21675-LSSA contains:

  • 5 isotopically labelled perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs):
    • ¹³C-MPFHxA (perfluorohexanoic acid),
    • ¹³C-MPFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid),
    • ¹³C-MPFNA (perfluorononanoic acid),
    • ¹³C-MPFDA (perfluorodecanoic acid),
    • ¹³C-MPFUdA (perfluoroundecanoic acid).
  • 2 isotopically labelled perfluoroalkyl sulphonates (PFSAs):
    • ¹³C-MPFHxS (perfluorohexane sulfonate),
    • ¹³C-MPFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate).

The individual compounds all have a chemical purity of over 98%.

This CRM is ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034 certified.
