Fluorinated polymers and residual compounds: a growing concern
The production and distribution of fluoropolymers have raised a number of environmental and health concerns, in particular due to exposure to residual compounds such as alcohols, acrylates and acetates of telomers, as well as potential degradation products such as perfluoroalkylcarboxylic acids ( PFCAs). These substances can persist in the environment and accumulate in the food chain, posing a risk to human health.
Among these compounds, fluorinated telomer acrylates have been detected in the indoor air of various environments, suggesting a continuous emission of fluorinated chemicals from consumer or construction materials containing fluoropolymers. This presence underlines the importance of having reliable analytical methods to monitor these compounds and better understand their behaviour and impact.
New reference standards for the analysis of acrylate and acetate fluorotelomers
To support the efforts of laboratories and researchers in this field, Wellington Laboratories is expanding its range of reference standards by introducing new analytical standards for native fluorinated telomers, including:
