Les QUATs, également connus sous le nom de QAC, sont des sels de cations d’ammonium quaternaire, avec l’un des nombreux hydrocarbures à longue chaîne et des substitutions à chaîne courte tels que le méthyle, l’éther et le benzyle.
Classification par l’Agence américaine de protection de l’environnement
L’EPA (l’Agence américaine de protection de l’environnement) a combiné les quats en quatre groupes, à des fins d’essai et d’enregistrement. Leur affectation de cette manière facilite les efforts de construction d’une base de données, qui soutiendra l’enregistrement de toute la famille des quats.
- Les QUATs substitués par l’alkyle ou l’hydroxyalkyle (chaîne droite)
- Les QUATs substitués par du benzyle non halogéné
- Le di- et tri-chlorobenzyle substitués
- QUATs avec des substituants inhabituels (composés d’ammonium hétérocycliques chargés)
Pourquoi analyser les QUATs ?
Les QUATs sont des agents antimicrobiens couramment utilisés, mais leur présence dans l’eau, les aliments et les surfaces peut poser des problèmes de sécurité sanitaire et environnementale. L’analyse de ces composés est essentielle pour :
